A perfect blend of happiness and sorrow, Children of Heaven, is a 1997 drama film. Central to the plot is an Iranian middle-class family drama, the writer-director Majid Majidi tries to take us through different kinds of struggles from both the adult lives and childhood days of the common people.

The movie starts with a normalized gender hierarchy and makes us ignore it, at the same time. Like in the playground scene, the boys are seen to have occupied the whole field to play football whereas the girls are playing in a compact space in the corner. Ali’s mother is been asked to rest just to recover fast only to make more babies and Zahra, a seven-year-old does all the household chores.

I personally loved Ali’s character because of the innocence it holds within despite being aware of the financial cutdown in the family. So, in pursuit of a pair of shoes for his little sister, responsibly runs to win an awarding race. But in the end, it all comes back to either square one or worse.
